"we found it to be a solution which affords us quality oversight
and management for the extremely complex network
of the college”
Israel Dac, of IT systems at the COMAS
(COMAS) The College of Management Academic Studies

The College of Management Academic Studies (COMAS) made a revolution in Israel’s higher education system.  COMAS has stood in the vanguard of Israeli higher education, developing into a leading institution of higher education committed to providing students with a professional grounding in their particular discipline together with a strong practical orientation.

Today there are over 11,000 students enrolled in various programs at COMAS while over 28,000 alumni are playing a leading role in all sectors of Israel’s economy. COMAS is the largest College in Israel and leads in the award of master’s degrees among the country’s colleges.

The activities of the institution are not limited to teaching alone. Each year COMAS sponsors many conferences, both international and national and faculty members have won a reputation in a variety of fields for their high level of research.

The COMAS campus is uncharacteristic to conventional enterprises, mainly because of the  enormous quantity of devices not managed by the campus. That is for the many students and  alumni with their personal machines who attempt to access the organizational network through  any available port at the sprawling campus.

The task of managing and controlling access to the organization’s network by this quantity and variety of devices is a formidable challenge for any ordinary network management & security solution provider.

The Objective and the Challenge

  1. Manage & control of thousands of access ports / points to the organization’s networks throughout the campus and the college many buildings and grounds.
  2. Implement a solution without the need of an agent device to be deployed at end points.
  3. Implement the solution without any adjustments or changes to the college infrastructure network configuration or the need to monitor / record network traffic.
  4. Enforcement of the organizational policy at the access attempt of any IP device to its intended network only.
  5. Establishment and installation of the selected solution fast and without any interruption to the workflow and the performance of the college operation.

What do they say at COMAS about portnox™:

Israel Dac, VP of IT systems at the college academic track says:

“Our organization’s need for a superior network security solution – is critical!
Being a public demarcated and open campus with thousands of network access points providing computing services for ongoing and occasional users sharpens this need for security that works. The one solution we’ve selected, that of access layers, we found it to be a solution which affords us quality oversight and management for the extremely complex network of the college.

This decision was made after a lengthy and detailed review of many products. The portnox™ solution has been integrated into the campus and the college within a couple of days, and that in spite of the complexity of managing over 100 different access switches spread over many buildings in our campus”.

Ben Kapuler the Regional Sales manager of access layers says about the project:

“Since the day we first introduced the portnox™ solution to the management of the college, we understood that the case here is that of a huge campus which is dissimilar in its nature, character and operations to any ordinary enterprise. That difference stems from the unbelievable amount of devices that do not belong to nor are managed by the enterprise.

Most devices belong to students and guests who access the network via any available access port / point on campus. The implementation however took only a few days after which we introduced them with the all encompassing and flexible management system, managing access down to the single port anywhere on campus. We are proud to have done that without any interruption to staff workflow, to the college faculty or its students”.
